On Monday, July 31, 2017, at approximately 3:00 p.m. Multnomah County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of a man who had gone under the water at Blue Lake.
A male and female were on a rented paddle boat when they began to move about the boat. The paddle boat began to take on water and list to one side. The occupants of the boat jumped into the water and began swimming toward the boat dock. Once in the water, both swimmers began to struggle.
A bystander on the dock saw the two struggling swimmers, and jumped into the water to help. The bystander swam out to them, and was able to assist the female onto a boat. When he turned to look for the male swimmer, he had gone under the water.
Members from Gresham Fire and Multnomah County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene. The Swift Water Rescue Team deployed a boat and went searching for the male. Rescuers called out Lifeflight and had them circling the scene in case of a rescue. Lifeflight stayed on scene for 45 minutes, before the incident switched from a rescue to a recovery.
Multnomah County Sheriff's Office Dive Team took over the scene and began searching for the male. At approximately 6:00p.m. divers found the body of the male boater.
The body has been turned over to the Multnomah County Medical Examiner's Office. No further details are available at this time, pending identification and family notifications.
