Update: Multnomah County Sheriff's Office conducting death investigation after fatal hiker fall on Angels Rest trail

Update: The deceased is identified as Viren Viuhkola, Age 36, of Tualatin, OR. The Multnomah County Medical Examiner determined Cause of Death as Blunt Force Trauma and Manner of Death - Accidental.

Viuhkola was hiking with his friend Ryan Hunter, Age 31, Tualatin, OR at the time of the accident.

This morning, Friday August 26, 2016, at 9:47 a.m. MCSO deputies along with Corbett Fire department responded to the report of a hiker who had fallen off the Angel's Rest trail about a ?1/2 mile up from the Angel's Rest Trailhead. The hiker, an adult male, had fallen approximately forty feet down off the side of the trail near a small waterfall. The person he was hiking with called 911 and described where they were at on the trail and placed a marker for emergency responders. Emergency responders arrived and made their way down to the patient who had suffered life-threatening injuries in the fall. Rescue crews attempted life-saving efforts at the scene but the hiker succumbed to his injuries.

MCSO Detectives and the Medical Examiner have been notified and are responding to conduct the death investigation. The body will be turned over to the Multnomah County Medical Examiner's Office.

We are not releasing any additional information at this time pending family notifications.
