Last night, MCSO responded to a report of a cougar that had killed two goats in the area of Angel's Rest Trailhead. Further information was reported that, one day prior, a cougar had entered a home across the road from the residence where the goats were killed and showed little fear of humans.
MCSO and Oregon State Police agreed that the due to the cougar’s recent behavior, it was a danger to people and livestock and determined that it needed to be removed from the area.
An MCSO Deputy was able to locate the cougar last night and discharged his firearm towards the animal. The cougar ran off. It was later determined that the cougar was not hit.
Oregon Departent of Fish and Wildlife arrived at the site where the goats were killed this morning and their biologist found evidence that the cougar may return. He set a live trap to capture the animal and remove it from the area.
Currently, Angel's Rest Trailhead is closed for the next day out of an abundance of caution while the animal is located.
