At the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, we believe in treating everyone with dignity and respect. Our values as a law enforcement agency align with the values of the community we serve. Public trust and accountability in law enforcement are vital to a safe and inclusive community. As public safety professionals and representatives of the communities we serve, it’s important that we understand the impact that racially motivated policing has on communities of color and marginalized populations. We have no tolerance for disparate treatment.
We want to be clear, enforcing Gov. Kate Brown’s “Stay at Home” order is not an exception to the rule. Our deputies have received direction and guidance to ensure everyone is treated with fairness and respect. To provide additional clarity, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office is offering guidance to frequently asked questions, which is also published on our website. If an individual feels they were mistreated or their rights were violated, they can make a complaint alleging misconduct by a MCSO member. The complaint can be from an individual wishing to remain anonymous or from a third party. Please follow the steps below.
- MCSO maintains a Complaint Form on the agency website (www.mcso.us) located under the ‘Providing Feedback’ tab on the webpage titled FAQ. In accordance with MCSO’s Complaint Form, complaints should include contact information, an overview of the alleged incident and desire as to how the complaint should be resolved.
- The Complaint Form may be delivered in the following ways, to include but not limited to:
- In person with any member or at any MCSO facility. The member will forward the information, through channels, to the Internal Affairs Unit.
- By faxing the Internal Affairs Unit (503-988-4324).
- By electronic mail via iau@mcso.us.
- By telephoning the Internal Affairs Unit (503-988-4557).
- By mail to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.
Every complaint received will be investigated by the Internal Affairs Unit, and the complainant will be informed of the investigation outcome. The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office takes every complaint very seriously, as we strive to ensure police transparency, community safety and public trust.
