In response to a threat of explosives at a school, Corbett School District evacuated all buildings and moved students to a safe location. All school buildings were searched and cleared by the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, and it was determined that there was no danger.
On Monday, December 11, at 10:53 a.m. two school staff members received an email stating there was explosives in a school that would detonate within three areas. The email was brought to the attention of Corbett School District Superintendent Derek Fialkiewicz and at 10:58 a.m. he called 911. Simultaneously, Mr. Fialkiewicz initiated full evacuation and all students and staff were moved to a safe location. Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies arrived shortly after the initial evacuation and coordinated the transport of students and staff by school bus to Corbett Community Church.
Parents were notified by email and text message to meet their students at the church. Students were released to their parents or authorized adults after checking in with school staff.
Once all students and staff were off-campus, MCSO personnel began searching the campus. By 12:45 p.m., after a thorough search, all school buildings and grounds were deemed clear and safe.
Investigators will work to determine the source of the threat.
MCSO would like to thank the staff of Corbett School District for their quick action and organization, and the students for their cooperation. We would also like to thank the parents and community for remaining calm and cooperating with school staff during this stressful situation.
