The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office will be participating in enhanced DUII enforcement during the month of August and continuing through Labor Day Weekend. Funding for this extended effort is provided by the Oregon State Sheriff's Association (OSSA) and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT).

As summer starts to wind down, Labor Day Weekend approaches, and we continue to have busy travel weekends, we are reminding travelers to drive sober. The nation lost 35,092 people in traffic crashes in 2015. Of those, 10,265 people were killed in drunk-driving crashes--almost a third of all traffic fatalities.

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) want to remind you that any time you drive under the influence of alcohol, you put everyone in danger, including yourself. Help us spread this lifesaving message: Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving.

MCSO will be adding enhanced DUII patrols and enforcement throughout the county.

Remember that it is never okay to drink and drive, even if you've just had one alcoholic beverage.

MCSO, ODOT, OSSA, and NHTSA remind you to have a plan if you are going to drink:
* Designate a sober driver
* Call a taxi or ride-sharing service
* Use public transportation

Support zero tolerance for impaired driving. If you see a drunk driver, call 9-1-1. If you know a friend who is about to drink and drive, take the keys away and make arrangements for a safe trip home.

Commit to only driving 100-percent sober. Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.
